Six courses are required for a minor in English: ENG 231, ENG 232 and four other courses at the level of 300 or above, no more than one of which may be in writing. ENG 235 and ENG 236 may be counted among the four other courses.

Those wishing to declare a minor in English need to complete the proper paperwork in the Undergraduate Dean's office.

The Minor in Writing is an interdisciplinary program consisting of six total courses. The courses in the minor allow students who want to pursue a creative writing emphasis to select courses that provide a foundation in literary form and craft. Students can also pursue a professional writing and editing emphasis or create a course of study that combines creative and professional writing, publishing, and editing.

• Students can also apply to have up to 2 internship/research apprenticeship/independent study courses counted towards the minor if the majority of their duties/assignments are directly related to writing and/or editing. Writing minors are also encouraged to apply to internship opportunities available through the English Department.

The Minor in Irish Studies is an interdisciplinary program consisting of six total courses. Students take classes in a variety of subjects (History, English, Modern Languages, Politics), examining the history, literature, languages and culture of Ireland from a variety of scholarly perspectives and methods of inquiry. Those who complete the minor emerge knowledgeable in the complex cultural and linguistic history of Irish society. Students considering the minor are strongly encouraged to consult with the Director of Irish Studies about their course of study.
